Complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) is a good example of a pain syndrome which has multiple components of pain, whereby the central component is being more and more studied. For example, changes in the spatial attention in CRPS associated with decreased attention to proprioceptive and sensory stimuli and increased attention to painful stimuli. In an analogy with hemineglect which occurs after a right hemisphere lesion, rehabilitation via prism adaptation aimed at correcting the spatial attentional de_ cits obtains good results with regards to pain and motor function.
