TRAUMATOLOGY OF ALPINE SKIING AND SNOW SURFING :
45 years of experience at the Grenoble South Hospital
The trauma of snowboarding has changed considerably over the last 40 years. Before the 1970s, the practice of skiing was relatively confidential and only a few initiates engaged in this practice. Alpine skiing was the only discipline and bi-malleolar fractures were by far the most common fractures.
Gradually, new snow sports appeared, including cross-country skiing at the end of the 1970s, snowboarding at the end of the 1980s and finally snow-blade skiing (short skis, less than one meter in length) in the late 1990s.
