L'enregistrement et l'analyse des paramètres spatio-temporels (PST) de la marche sont devenus incontournables en clinique. L'analyse fonctionnelle de la marche constitue un véritable examen, listé dans la classification commune des actes médicaux (PEQP002). Pourtant, l'utilisation et surtout l'interprétation des PST reste bien souvent superficielle alors qu'ils recèlent de multiples informations sur l'aspect fonctionnel et le contrôle de la marche.
Cet article propose de faire le point sur les différents aspects de l'interprétation clinique des troubles de la marche au travers des PST : l'aspect fonctionnel, les stratégies d'évitement de l'appui, l'altération du contrôle de la marche et l'exploitation de la variabilité de ces paramètres.

Towards genuine clinical use of spatio-temporal parameters
The recording and analysis of spatio-temporal parameters (STP) of gait have become essential in clinical practice. Functional gait analysis is a recognized examination, listed in the Common Classification of Medical Procedures (PEQP002). However, the use and, more importantly, the interpretation of STPs are often superficial, despite the wealth of information they provide on the functional aspects and control of gait.
This article reviews the various facets of the clinical interpretation of gait disorders using STPs: Functional aspects, weight-bearing avoidance strategies, impairment of gait control and the role of parameter variability.
